YouTube - 100k+ Subscribers

I run a YouTube channel (Jenna Wang) that features me dancing to Kpop in public places by doing Kpop in Public Challenges. I’ve danced in multiple places including my high school, my local mall, tourist attractions around China, and more!

In just the span of a few short years, my channel snowballed to 100k+ subscribers and over 10M views.

Where it all began...

This was the first video I ever uploaded to my channel. It features me dancing to one of my favorite Kpop songs on a cold Chicago afternoon.

I was just a 10th grader at the time who was shy and unable to grasp any concept of my ‘true passions.’ It wasn’t until I witnessed BTS dancing at the American Music Awards in 2018 did I really feel inspired to gain my confidence. That form of Asian representation in the media was simply life-changing. It was the very catalyst that allowed me to care less about what others thought of me in pursuing what I loved.

The Journey

I could have never expected how fast my channel would grow. As soon as I started dancing in my high school, I was humbled by how many people gained inspiration from my videos. Of course, there were consequences to this growth. The occasional hate comment would get to my head and the pressure of keeping up with life’s other responsibilities got in the way. After all, I had started uploading videos for my own personal self-growth, without any expectation that millions of people would watch my every move. Dancing in my high school among my peers, most of whom have never heard about Kpop either, filled me with nerves and goosebumps.

However, every single positive comment touched my heart deeply. They reminded me to ignore the keyboard warriors and focus on what I loved. That led me to some fantastic opportunities. I got to start my very own Kpop dance team called Seoul Connections (Insta: @seoulconnections) while in 11th grade and met other fellow Kpop lovers. I also got to collaborate with several businesses on brand deals and improve upon my editing skills.

Stage K

Stage K was a Korean TV show that invited cover artists to audition for a chance to dance on the same stage as their favorite idols. Upon sending in my online audition, I passed the first stage and was invited to audition in-person within New York City.

Although I wasn’t able to make it to the very end, I made some incredible friends, had an amazing time, and even got to see myself on TV!
